FAQs

Where should a complete beginner start?

Read our complete guide first. It explains Instant Self-Hypnosis step by step. Then come back here for the videos, podcasts, books and resources we have checked.

What is instant self-hypnosis?

Instant self-hypnosis is a fast way to hypnotise yourself in a few minutes and give yourself positive suggestions. The best-known method, from Forbes Robbins Blair, lets you do it with your eyes open while reading a script.

Can you really hypnotise yourself with your eyes open?

Yes. Blair's method uses a written induction that you read slowly, which focuses your attention and relaxes you while you stay aware of your surroundings. You then read your suggestions and the awakening instructions from the page.

How long does self-hypnosis take?

A session can take as little as two to five minutes. Many people practise for 5 to 15 minutes once or twice a day.

Can I get stuck in self-hypnosis?

No. Self-hypnosis is a natural, focused state and you remain in control. If you stop, you simply return to normal awareness or drift into ordinary sleep.
